1.Detail a procedure for alerting whomever must know that a major crisis of accident has taken place. 2. Establish who will be in charge of the disaster team and thus the source of information and to get agreement on the fact that the practitioner and staff will be the only source of information to the news media. 3. Determine an appropriate location where an operations/news center could be set up. 4. List appropriate public official, including legislators, union leaders, heads of local consumer, community and government groups and key opinion leaders. 5. Initiate contact and open up a communications channel. During a crisis this can turn a potential enemy into an ally. 6. Ensure the availability of a large supply of background information kits Know where the nearest hospital, ambulance, fire, police, poisons control and other emergency services are. 7. Major disasters can effect the price of the stock. Therefore a financial analyst's staff member should be available for inquiries and directors or trustees notified. 8. Contact regulatory agencies like the Occupational Health and Safety Administration. 9. Make sure the Labour Relations people are involved in any decisions affecting union-represented employees.
